Personalize a Step Stool and more!

Hi friends!  I am learning how to use adhesive vinyl sheets. Personalizing and decorating  multiple surfaces is fun!  

I am using the polished metal vinyl by Styletech Craft.  They have many exciting vinyls and a color for every kind of project!

Today I decided to personalize my studio step stool. This item has had a way of growing legs and walking away.  There won't be any doubts now about who it belongs to and where it should reside!  I could probably have stopped after applying the word "studio", but I wanted to do more!

Read on and I will tell you how I did it!

Materials I used:

Tape Technologies (Styletech Crafts) Vinyl:  Ruby #435HM; Silver #493HM

Step Stool:  Collapsible black step stool with white polka dots on top

Transfer Tape

Pick Tool: For weeding vinyl

Scissors

Die-cut Machine

Dies or download:  Fonts for alphabet letters

Rubbing alcohol

Cotton balls

Instructions:

1.  Gather the supplies.  Check the width and height of the area you are applying vinyl to.  Make sure your cut vinyl will fit in the chosen area.  Wipe the surface clean with rubbing alcohol using the cotton ball.  It doesn't hurt to pre-cut your letters on regular paper to make sure you are getting the correct size before cutting your vinyl.

2.  Cut a piece of transfer tape to fit over the top (right side) of the vinyl.  Smooth the transfer tape over the vinyl.  Use the Pick Tool to weed the release paper and vinyl away from the main design. There are many videos online if you have not done this step before.  After you weed the unwanted vinyl, you will place the sticky side down on the prepared surface and smooth it in place.  Remove any air bubbles and carefully remove the transfer paper. Your beautiful design should be revealed.

 I hope you got some inspiration here today.  This is what I would consider a beginners project.  This craft can be addictive so be warned!

DIY Shaker Valentine with Styletechcraft Vinyl

Would you agree that homemade Valentines are the best kind?

I think they are and want to show a technique that has a lot of possibilities!

In gathering my supplies; I got my cardstock, adhesive vinyls, adhesives, punches, die-cut machine and some acetate.  The acetate comes comes in clear sheets in an office supply or craft store.  Sometimes you will find it as a memory paper with designs in it, but I used clear for this shaker card. The fun compenent to this card are adhesive vinyl sheets that I used to decorate the front of the card.  The vinyl was die-cut and adhered to the acetate on the front of the card.

Here is what you will need:

StyleTechcraft Vinyl:  Ultra FX:  Stardust and Galaxy

Transfer paper

Cardstock:  red

Acetate:  clear

Adhesives:  tacky glue, 3-D tape, tape runner

Paper trimmer

Die-cut machine

Punches

Dies:  hearts, frame, alphabet letters (L and Love)

Embellishments:  washi tape, paper doily, rhinestone  (your choice)

Photograph (I printed one out in the size I wanted.)

Directions:

Gather all of the components for your card and assemble.  I used half of a paper doily, some washi tape and 4 graduated sizes and colors of die-cut hearts.  I punched out the small hearts for confetti.

Cut out the 5" x 7" frame which will become the front panel of the card.  Center and adhere the frame to the acetate.

Before assembling; cut out the vinyl letters and adhere to the 5" x 7" rectangle of acetate.  The internet has many videos, showing how to cut out and apply vinyl.  Google "how to apply adhesive craft vinyl".

Apply the picture to the front of the card.  See the photo below to show how to apply the front panel.

Turn the front panel to it's wrong side.  Remove the release paper from the 3-D tape.  

Put the punched hearts in the window.  Center and adhere the front panel to the front of the card.

This is how the front of the card should appear.  The first picture on the blog shows the card without the paper doily for those who think less is more!  I was experimenting as I designed this card.  I will make more and tweak the card to look exactly like I want it to.

"Believe" Shadow Box - Christmas Decor

The holidays are upon us!  I have had a shadowbox frame in my stash for a long time  I decided to take it out and turn it into some Christmas decor this year.  The project I came up with is very quick and easy and looks magical!  Read on to see just what I did.....

You will need:

Styletechcraft Vinyl:  Polished Metal, Red

Transfer paper

Weeding tool

Shadow box: 8" x 10"; (I painted mine black)

Sisal trees

Memory paper and embellishments

Glitter:  white

Glue

Paper trimmer

Die-cut machine

Directions:

1.  Take the shadow box apart.  Make sure the glass is clean.  Paint the frame if desired.

2.  Cut the memory paper to fit in the back of the shadowbox frame.  Adhere.

3.  Glue the sisal trees to the bottom of the shadow box.  Sprinkle generously with glitter.  Remove most of the excess, but leave some for effect. Adhere the wreath and small embellishments to the memory paper.

4.  Cut out the word Believe on the die-cut machine.  I set the size at 1" which is the height.  Apply the transfer paper and pick out the part of the design you won't be using.  This is called "weeding".

Adhere the sentiment to the inner frame as shown. Remove the transfer paper.

5.  Replace all of the layers of the frame.  Box, inner frame, glass and top frame.  Now it is ready to show off!

Decorate a Christmas serving plate and candle holder with Tape Technologies

Need some quick and easy ideas for the Holidays?  With the help of Tape Technologies vinyl I have created some Christmas decor that I am proud to show off!  Read on and I will tell you how I did it!

I purchased an inexpensive ivy bowl and picked up the platter at a second-hand store.  

You will also need:

Tape Technologies vinyl:  Red and Green Polished Metal (Styletechcraft)

9" square opalescent plate with hobnail type trim  (or other similar find!)

Ivy bowl

Tea light'

Paper Trimmer

Die Cut machine

Instructions:

Clean and dry the glass thoroughly.

Cut 1/2" strips from the red vinyl with the paper trimmer.  Cut 1/2" increments from the 1/2" x 12" strip.  Set the 1/2" squares aside.

Remove the release paper from the back of one square.  Center and adhere to one corner of the platter. Repeat on the opposite side. Adhere a square next to the first square and repeat on each side; working towards the middle.  Repeat for the other 3 sides.

The plate should look like the photo below when you are finished.

Cut out holly leaves and berries using the die-cut machine.  If you don't have a die-cut machine, trace the pattern on the wrong side of the vinyl (on the release paper) and cut out. Remove the release paper, arrange and adhere the vinyl to the surface removing any air bubbles.  Place the tea light in the ivy bowl to finish.  You can further embellish the ivy bowl with a pretty bow around the neck if you like!

Ghostly Garland with Styletechcraft Vinyl

October is the time of year for falling leaves, goblins and ghosties.  I purchased several beveled mirrors and some seasonal ribbon from my local Dollar Tree.  Tape Technologies vinyl was perfect for decorating the mirrors.  Read on, and I will tell you how I made the garland.

You will need:

Styletechcraft: Transparent Glitter Vinyl:  Black, Sunflower, Holo; Transfer Tape

Mirrors:  Round beveled edge, 5"

Ribbon:  Orange and black 2-1/2" wire edged

Dies:  Cat, Jack-O-Lantern, Skull & Bones

Die-cut machine

Scissors

Jute String:  one yard

Branch or Stick:  10"

Cardstock:  Black; cut into three 5-3/4" Circles with pinked edges

Glue Gun & Sticks

Instructions:

1.  Clean and dry the mirrors.

2.  Cut out a 4" jack-o-lantern.  Use the transfer paper to transfer the shape to the mirror.  Smooth out any air bubbles. Repeat for each shape.

3.  Cut three 5-3/4" circles with pinked edges.  Regular circles will work too.

4.  Glue a mirror to a cardstock circle.  Repeat for each mirror.

5.  Cut a 28" piece of ribbon.  With right side facing up; fold under the top edge 2".  Glue the edges leaving a casing for the jute. Thread the jute through the casing and tie one end around one side of the stick.  Secure with a knot. Repeat on the other side.  Trim the ends.  

6.  Cut a V in the bottom edge of the ribbon.

Hang up and enjoy!

Spooky Mirror with Tape Technologies

Halloween is just around the corner.  I made a quick and fun decoration from a framed mirror that I picked up at the local Dollar Tree.  With some craft vinyl sheets and a die-cut machine, I put together this easy spooky project.

You will need:

Tape Technologies Gloss Vinyl Craft Sheets (Styletechcraft):  Silver & Black; Transfer Tape

Framed Mirror:  8-1/2" x 10-1/2" with metallic frame

Die-cut Machine

Dies:  Cobwebs, Spider, Skull

Instructions:

1.  Go online and google how to "weed" your vinyl shapes and apply to the surface.  This will explain how to cut and apply your vinyl shapes.  It is also possible to go online and purchase cuts (there are some that you can find for free).

2. Cut your vinyl shapes and apply to the mirror as shown. Cut the skull from silver vinyl and the black for the cobwebs and the spider. If you get an air bubble, use a pin or needles to puncture and smooth the shape.

3.  Enjoy!

A Patriotic up-cycle with Tape Technologies

Ultra Metallic Vinyl

Website

You will need:

Ultra Metallic Vinyl:  Gold #127, Red 129, Blue 130

Electronic Die-cut Machine

Paper Trimmer

Re-cycled Jars:  I used large pickle and peppercini jars with smooth sides

Washi Tape:  Red & white chevron 

Jute 3 ply string

scissors

Directions:

For cutting stripes:  Use the paper trimmer to cut strips of vinyl.  

For cutting shapes:  Use the electronic die cut machine for the stars.

Stripes on jar:  Cut 1" wide strips of vinyl in the length you will need for the jar.  Leave room above each stripe to adhere a 1-1/4" gold star.  Cut some longer 1/4" wide strips of the red vinyl and adhere one between each wider red stripe as shown.  Cut 1/4" stripes from the gold and adhere a piece to the center of each wide red stripe as shown in the photo given.  

Stars:  Cut 1-1/2" stars from the gold vinyl.  Adhere a star to the jar above each wide red stripe.

Finish:  Adhere washi tape around the neck of the jar.  Tie a piece of jute string below the tape and finish with a shoestring bow.

For the horizontal stripes:  Cut 3/4" x 12" strips using the paper trimmer.  Apply horizontally to the jar has shown; matching up the ends.  Cut 1-1/2" gold stars and apply around the jar between the horizontal stripes.

Finish with washi tape and jute as directed with the striped jar.

Cut 1" gold stars.  Adhere to the entire jar.  Finish with washi tape and jute string as for the striped jar.

**The "heart" USA is an acrylic block that I cut and applied vinyl to.  The vinyl works well on smooth flat surfaces.

I used my jars to decorate for a 4th of July celebration though I would use these all Summer long!

They will serve as decorative containers to hold napkins, silverware, straws, etc.  I would use this idea for other celebrations too.  Weddings, birthdays, holidays, etc.!  Whatever your mind can conceive and perceive, it can achieve!  That is a favorite saying of mine that came from Mary Kay Ash.
