Romantic Country Bottle Decor with etchallR

Have you ever tried to paint on glass?  It can be a little tricky getting the paint to stay without being scratched off.  The glass is slick and doesn't hold the paint!  Well, there is a product that will solve that problem for you.  It is etchallR dip 'n etch liquid!  Stay tuned here and I will show you how it is done!

I purchased a hobnail clear glass bottle at the craft store.  It didn't come with a cork; so I re-cycled one from a bottle of wine and it worked perfectly.

To complete this project, you will need the following:

etchall:  dip 'n etch liquid; etchall creme; etchmask, etchall squeegee
Click here to check out the website! http://etchall.com/
clear hobnail bottle
cork from wine bottle
chalk paints:  vintage white; light teal
ribbon:
flowers:
charm:  white rose on silver filigree 3/4"
pearlstring:  one yard
cabochon:  one 1" round faux pearl
rhinestones:  clear *optional
scissors
paintbrush:  1"flat
water container
paper towels, paper plates
low melt glue gun
die cut machine
doily die
black Sharpie marker

Instructions:

1.  To etch the bottle:  Cut the top off of a liter soda bottle.  After washing the hobnail bottle; fill it with water and set it in the liter bottle.  Fill the plastic bottle with water up to the top of the glass bottle.  Use and permanent marker and make a line on the bottle at the water line.  Remove the bottle and dump the water from the plastic container.  Fill up to the marker line with the dip 'n etch liquid.  Put the bottle into the container.  The dip 'n etch liquid should come up to the top of the bottle.  Set the timer for 15 minutes to let the etchall do it's job.

2.  When the timer goes off; remove the bottle, dump out the water and wash in soapy water.
Pour the etchall dip n' etch liquid back into it's container.  It is good to go for another day!

After a few uses, the dip 'n etch will change from clear to a darker color.  It is still good to go!!

3.  For the mirror:  Die-cut the doily from the etchmask.  Remove the release paper and adhere to the center of the mirror coaster.  Use the etchall squeegee to remove any air bubbles and to make sure it is solidly adhered to the mirror.

4.  Follow the instructions given on the etchall etching creme and apply liberally to the mirror using the squeegee.  Set the timer for 15 minutes.  When the time is up; use the squeegee to replace the etching creme in it's container and it is good to go for another project.  The creme stays good even when it turns a dark color.  You can use it over and over.

The photo below shows how the glass pieces will look after etching.  Now comes the fun part!  The bottle now has "tooth" to adhere the chalk paint when you apply it.  No chipping, slipping or scratches!

5.  Paint the bottle light teal. Apply 2 coats if needed.  Allow to dry.  Apply some vintage white paint to a dry brush and lightly rake it over the sides to give it a slightly distressed look.  Allow to dry.

6.  Cork:  Cut an inch off of the wine cork.  Discard.  Place the cork in the bottle and pencil in a line on the cork at the lip of the bottle.  Adhere pearlstring to the cork by wrapping around the sides to cover the visible part of the cork.  Adhere the cabochon to the top of the cork.

7.  Embellish the neck of the bottle with the ribbons, charm, pearlstring and flowers as shown.
You may want to personalize it with items of your choosing for a different aesthetic that matches your taste.

8.  Place the bottle on the coaster for a pretty, reflective, decorative finish!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you enjoyed this project.  My daughter has a wedding coming up and I thought this bottle would make a nice bridesmaids gift.  I would put a personal note inside the bottle to make it personal for each bridesmaid.  Of course there are other things that it could be used for too!

Make sure to take time to enjoy the small blessings along the way and

Dress up a Vintage Pyrex Dish with etchall creme!

Have you ever tried etching?  It can look a little intimidating if you haven't.  I use a product called etchall and it is fun and easy to use. The main ingredient is a glass project to finish and I enjoy searching for vintage pieces to etch.

Before you start; I highly recommend watching the video provided by Barbee at http://etchall.com/

Do you like to give food dishes to people and not have to worry about getting the dish back?  I love going to second hand stores.  Sometimes you will get lucky and find a "vintage" dish.  I almost always find something special.  I can then personalize the dish in some way and give it away with a gift of food in it.  Bottles, beverage containers and drinking glasses can be great finds too.

Here is a picture of the dish that I found.  Do you remember the Pyrex with the snowflake design? The color is popular again too!

The pictures to follow are to show how I etched the lid of the dish.

You will need:

Casserole dish with glass lid
etchallR etching creme
etchmaskR stencil combo pack
Tool:  etchall squeegee

painter's tape
Cricut or other cutting machine
cartridge or die for letters
scissors

*Note:  Figure out the size and shape you will need before you cut out the etchmask and transfer paper.
I used 1" letters and cut out each word separately on my Cricut machine.

1.  Apply the stencil paper to the etchmask only using the amount you will need for your project.  Cut out the word "GOOD".  Trim with scissors and apply to the glass lid.  Repeat; cutting out the word "EATS".  Apply to the glass lid as shown.  Use the squeegee tool to get out all of the air bubbles.

2.  Apply painters' tape around the stencil.  This is to prevent any of the etching creme to get on the glass.
3. Apply the etching creme and use the squeegee tool to spread it out over the stencil.  Be generous; but don't get any of the creme on the glass outside the tape.
4.  Set the timer for 15 minutes.  Remove the creme when the time is up and put it back into the jar. The etching creme is good to use over and over.  Take the glass to the sink and rinse with water; then remove all of the stencil and tape and wash & dry the dish thoroughly.

For the sake of the photograph below; I filled the dish with celery and carrots.  While these are good for you; I am thinking more about filling it with something a little more fattening before I give it as a gift.

I hope you got some inspiration to start etching!  I will be looking for new projects and sharing my new ideas on this blog.

I hope you are enjoying this holiday season.  The new year will be arriving in a couple of days!

Magnetic School Locker Decor

School is back in session and everyone is getting their team spirit on!  I wasn't much for athletics when I was in school.  My daughter tried many sports; but she is an artist like her mom.  That is how we roll.

This magnetic pennant is a fun way to add a little school spirit to a locker.  A fun touch would be to embellish it with a little mirror.  If you have boys, this embellishing may not be what floats their boat!
The deflecto magnetic sheeting can be cut into any shape.  That is what makes it so fun to craft with!

The magnetic sheeting can be trimmed to fit the mat for an electronic cutting machine.
You will need to set the cutting pressure on high and use a deep cutting blade to cut through the magnetic sheeting.  Remove the sheet from the mat and work it back and forth to punch out the shapes.

The following is a close-up view of the embellishing on the pennant.  Let your imagination be your guide!

Thanks for stopping by!

Something old, something new! Memory Photo Transfers from 1998....

I hate cleaning out the garage!  The older I get, the more urgent I feel about getting it done.  25+ years of working in and around the craft industry and the fact that I am (have to confess) a pack rat has made for the PERFECT STORM!  You know how they say you play, you pay later?  Well, that is what it feels like!

Another hazard of cleaning out is that you will always find hidden treasures from long ago.  Well, it doesn't really seem that long ago; but it is an entire lifetime to someone born in the 1990's.  But, I regress.......

In cleaning out; I came across a box of craft books from the past that I had forgotten about doing.  In the late 1990's it became the craze for a while to photo transfer onto fabric and on everything!  We had vests, quilts, memory books, you name it!  If you could get fabric on or around it; it could get a photo transfer!

The following are a few of the designs that I felt would still be worthy of crafting and reminded me that it was kind of fun.  I went through old family photos for most of the projects.  In case you didn't already know; I was a kid in the 50's and the photo on the blue album was someone I didn't know from my Grandma's old photos.  It was half of the fun picking through them all.

So, the following are some of the projects from the book.  It was called Photo Transfer, Pretty As A Picture by Hot Off the Press, copyright 1998.

That is a picture of my little sister from that era.  She would probably kill me if she knew I put it on the blog.  Oh, well.

Well, that is it.  Hope you enjoyed looking at some designs from years gone by.  The book they were published in is now a memory for me!

Hope you are having a groovy day!
